Dr. Michael E. Dantley

Dr. Michael E. Dantley is the recently retired Dean of the College of Education, Health and Society and Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Before his last higher education position, Dr. Dantley served as Dean and Professor of Educational Leadership of the School of Education at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Dantley has served as the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs also at Miami University.

His research focuses on leadership, critical spirituality, and social justice especially leadership in urban school contexts. Dr. Dantley has been widely published in leading journals in educational leadership and in hallmark texts on leadership and social justice. He currently serves as the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education and is a member of the Steering Committee of Education Deans for Justice and Equity and a member of the Steering Committee of the Coalition of Black Education Deans. He also is the CEO of MED Consulting, LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Dantley’s recent publications include Critical consciousness and spirituality: Deconstructing the colonizing practices of US education through the lens of Paulo Freire and critical spirituality. In P. McLaren and S. SooHoo (Eds.). Radical Imagine Nation and Critical citizenship and anger: a reconstructionist resistance to the election of Donald J. Trump. International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. Dr. Dantley’s new book, Leading With A Critical Spirit: New Strategies for Educational Leaders will be available in late October 2023.
